Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), also known as a Photofacial is a zero downtime treatment in which intense pulses of light are used to penetrate deep into the skin. In order to determine if a patient is a candidate, a skin assessment will be performed as well as a detailed skin type questionnaire.
Done in a series of three treatments, each thirty days apart, IPL addresses sun damage/age spots as well as redness, rosacea and broken capillaries. Before the treatment, a layer of cool gel is applied to the skin and eye protection is placed on the patient to protect from the bright flashes of light. The treatment typically takes around 15 minutes.
The most important things to do after an IPL treatment is to avoid the sun for several days and wear plenty of sunblock.
