Otoplasty, commonly known as ear reshaping or ear pinning, is a transformative cosmetic procedure designed to correct prominent or misshapen ears, instantly revitalizing a patient's appearance. While often sought after by young children, Dr. Bader, a double-board-certified facial plastic surgeon, specializes in delivering stunning results for adults looking to enhance their facial balance and reclaim their confidence. Whether it's addressing lifelong concerns or simply refining your look, this surgery can make a world of difference at any age.
The ears are a complex part of the body and their appearance plays a vital role in your facial aesthetics. Cosmetic ear surgery is a common solution for many ear concerns such as:
Aside from being an award-winning facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Bader is a father of three. He understands firsthand the anxieties and worries that a parent may feel when their child has to undergo major surgery and knows exactly how to put a smile on your child's face.
Regardless of age, since Dr. Bader has performed thousands of otoplasty surgeries during his career, his meticulous attention to detail ensures that the results of ear surgery—whether reshaping or pinning—are natural and balanced.
It is important not to take aspirin or Tylenol for at least a week before surgery. Do not smoke or use nicotine patches for at least 2 weeks before and don’t eat 8 hours leading up to the procedure. Also, plan to have someone take you home and be by your side during the early recovery process.
While children make up the majority of otoplasty patients, a good candidate is anyone who suffers from protruding, uneven, or abnormally sized ears. Otoplasty can also correct ear deformities caused by illness or injury. To see if you are a good candidate for otoplasty, feel free to book a one-to-one consultation with Dr. Bader.
Dr. Bader's extensive education and experience ensures that you are in good hands for otoplasty surgery, yet as with all medical interventions there are risks involved. These include:
After the procedure, you will likely experience some mild pain and discomfort which can be reduced with prescription pain medication. Surgical dressings will be applied to the face and ears and these must remain in place until Dr. Bader assesses your healing progress in a follow-up consultation, usually 3-5 days later. After a week, you will be ready to resume your usual daily activities, after two weeks you can enjoy light exercise and after a month more vigorous activities can take place. Swelling and bruising will also reduce over this period with full recovery expected after 6 weeks post-surgery.

Your ears and nose are both prominent facial features. When performed with otoplasty, rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) helps balance the facial profile by addressing both the ears and nose, enhancing symmetry and proportion.
For comprehensive facial rejuvenation, chin implants can create a well-defined chin that better balances with the ears, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing overall appearance
By removing the excess fat around the neck and jawline at the same time as otoplasty you can further enhance your facial profile allowing your ears to look more natural.
