Ear Surgery Consultation

During the initial consultation, Dr. Bader will discuss your aesthetic goals and medical history to find the right approach for you. During this meeting, he will devise a personalized procedure plan.

Pre-Surgery Preparation

It is important not to take aspirin or Tylenol for at least a week before surgery. Do not smoke or use nicotine patches for at least 2 weeks before and don’t eat 8 hours leading up to the procedure. Also, plan to have someone take you home and be by your side during the early recovery process.

Out-of-Town Patient Arrival

Visiting Plano? Be sure to arrive at least 2 days before your surgery to allow time for tests and settling in.

Day Before Surgery

The day before your otoplasty, you will be required to see Dr. Bader to make the final review of your treatment plan.

Day of Surgery

For children and teenagers, Dr. Bader may opt to use a general anesthetic for otoplasty. Meanwhile, for adults, a local anesthetic is common practice. Dr. Bader will use 3.5X microscopic examination to assess your ear structure before making discreet, small incisions either on the back of the ear (for ear pinning) or in the ear crease (for ear reshaping). Sutures are then used to hold the ear and the cartilage in place before the wounds are closed.

Post-Surgery Follow-Up

Dr. Bader will assess the initial stages of healing the day after your procedure. This is followed by an additional consultation around a week - 10 days after surgery when your bandages and any will be removed.

Travel Post Surgery

If you came from outside of Plano, you will be free to travel back home after one week of your surgery. This ensures Dr. Bader can assess your healing progress.

Social Readiness

While the initial stages of your otoplasty healing will involve you wearing surgical dressings, you will be able to return to your daily routine after a week.

The Otoplasty Healing and Recovery Process

After the procedure, you will likely experience some mild pain and discomfort which can be reduced with prescription pain medication. Surgical dressings will be applied to the face and ears and these must remain in place until Dr. Bader assesses your healing progress in a follow-up consultation, usually 3-5 days later. After a week, you will be ready to resume your usual daily activities, after two weeks you can enjoy light exercise and after a month more vigorous activities can take place. Swelling and bruising will also reduce over this period with full recovery expected after 6 weeks post-surgery.
