Restoring Confidence Through Mohs Surgery and Reconstruction

Mohs Surgery and Reconstruction can be a daunting undertaking for skin cancer patients as Mohs Surgery involves rounds of removing facial skin to clear out any cancerous cells on the face. While this technique is highly effective in eliminating cancer, it often leaves patients with irregularities that require Mohs Surgery Reconstruction.

What Procedures Are Involved in Reconstruction After Mohs Surgery?

Regardless of where your skin was affected by Mohs Surgery, Dr. Bader has a technique to restore form and functionality to your face. From replacing cartilage in the nose or ears to providing skin grafts, discover how Mohs surgery and reconstruction can revitalize your face below:

Skin Grafts

For smaller irregularities, a skin graft is often the best option. Skin grafts involve taking healthy skin from another part of the body to cover the area.

Local Flap

In this technique, the skin near the irregularity is rotated or repositioned to cover the area while maintaining blood flow.

Cartilage Grafts

Cartilage grafts are used when structural support is needed, particularly for nose or ear reconstruction. Cartilage is taken from another site for support.

Reconstruction After Mohs Surgery Procedure

Knowing what you need to restore form and functionality to your face after Mohs surgery can be difficult. That's why we've provided an outline of what you can expect during your time with Bader Facial Plastics- whether you're a Plano or Dallas local or you are traveling in from elsewhere in the United States.
1

Reconstruction After Mohs Surgery Consultation

Discuss your needs & desires with Dr. Bader during this initial surgical consultation. Dr. Bader will listen, do a quick exam of the affected area, and help outline a personalized surgical plan to cater to all of your needs.
2

Pre-Surgery Preparation

You will need to complete blood work and any requested pre-surgery tests as advised by Dr. Bader. Two weeks before the procedure, you will also be advised to stop smoking, avoid alcohol consumption, and discontinue certain medications- like blood thinners. All of these requests are made in order to reduce the risk of complications.
3

Out-of-Town Patient Arrival

If you’re traveling from outside the Plano and Dallas, TX area, we recommend you arrive no later than 1-2 days before your procedure to ensure you are acclimatized to the weather and are present to complete any necessary pre-surgery check-ups, such as the pre-surgery appointment scheduled for the day before your surgery.

4

Day of Surgery

During your procedure, you will undergo local or general anesthesia, and the reconstruction will be tailored based on the irregularity size and complexity. Facial plastic reconstructive surgery may involve skin grafts, flaps, or cartilage reconstruction as discussed in your consultation with Dr. Bader. For most procedures, you can expect to go home the same day.

5

Post-Surgery Follow-Up

Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to ensure proper healing and address any concerns you may have during recovery. The first of these appointments is typically scheduled 1-2 weeks after the surgery. Best practices for post-reconstructive facial surgery include:

  • Keeping surgical sites clean & dry
  • Avoiding strenuous activity
  • Protecting the area from sun exposure
  • Limiting activity that could put pressure on the area
  • Attending all follow-up appointments

All of this and more will be covered before you leave our center after your procedure to ensure proper healing can occur.

6

Travel Post Surgery

For non-locals, Dr. Bader recommends spending at least a week in Plano, close to the office so that he can monitor your healing process and set you up on your post-procedure treatment plan to ensure optimum results.
7

Social Readiness

Every patient is different. Therefore, social readiness will vary. However, most patients are typically ready to resume social activities within 1-2 weeks after Mohs surgery and reconstruction.

So pleased with my revision. I spent 2 years observing the results and researching doctors across the US and Europe, and chose him. My advice: Choose a doctor that always shows each angle of his finished noses. Don't choose doctors that show anything less! Pay attention to lighting in the photos too. Choose a doctor who specializes in noses. They are intricate and important not only to your aesthetics but also your breathing. Don't compromise your beauty or your breathing with a good doctor. Save / wait for a great doctor. Dr. Bader and his staff exceeded every expectation. My surgery and aftercare were professional and seamless. I would recommend him to anyone who is having a primary or revision. It was the best decision I've ever made.

Went yesterday for a revision rhinoplasty consultation. Excellent experience! The staff was all very friendly & helpful. Amanda has been a joy to work with during the entire process. I researched several doctors over the past maybe 6-8 months before scheduling my consultation with Dr. Bader. Very excited to have a revision done in the future by him!

Dr. Bader changed my life!! For the better! I was so insecure and sad with my previous results with a Dr in Mexico(crooked, upturned, ect). I honestly didn't think anyone could make it better until i found him. At consultation he explained how he could improve it and was very honest about it, and his staff was very friendly and they made you feel comfortable. I always feel like Drs rush and dont hear you out completely, but it was different here. I made sure to explain all my questions and concerns so many times and they heard me out, explained the whole process and made me feel like i was in the best hands! My results are exactly what i wanted!
